The World Fears Depth

The world fears depth, because depth demands stillness, and stillness asks questions. Most people choose the surface where conversations remain light, emotions remain manageable, and distractions offer quick comfort. Life, they argue, is already difficult; why burden it further with heavier thoughts? And so, ease becomes a refuge, entertainment a shelter, and existence is reduced to what feels pleasant in the moment.

Yet in this constant search for pleasure, curiosity quietly fades. The desire to know the truth is replaced by the need to be entertained. Detachment is mistaken for indifference, solitude confused with loneliness. Few are willing to sit with their setbacks, to observe the mind patiently, to rewire old patterns, or to understand the deeper sciences of thought, emotion, and being. Inner engineering requires courage and courage is rarely convenient.

It is perhaps why people disengage when art, God, poetry, or philosophy enter the conversation. The stars and the moon no longer invite wonder; selfless kindness appears impractical when no advantage is gained. Depth unsettles because it strips away noise and illusion. To look deeply is to encounter oneself and not everyone is ready for that meeting.
